Exciting opportunities for EU GP’s to work as a GP in the UK

Location: England UK

The Health Education England GP International Induction Programme (GPIIP) is a supported route to enable you to work as a GP for the NHS in England. Health Education England is the educational arm of the NHS in the UK and this is a programme they offer which means you can come to the UK and be paid for a structured induction programme so that you are fully confident about working in the NHS before you work independently.

To work as a GP in the UK you are required to be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) GP Register with a Licence to Practise and be on the NHS England’s Medical Performers List. We can help you with all the processes, applications and documentation required to achieve this. We can also help you to find a practice that can sponsor your Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker visa.

The funding that is guaranteed through this programme includes:

  • A salary equivalent to £3,500 per month (full time) while on the initial clinical placement (this lasts 3-6 months)
  • A Payment of up to £750 for costs of professional negligence cover while on the programme
  • A one-off payment/reimbursement of up to £464 towards the costs of GMC membership and DBS fees.
  • Reimbursement of up to £200 for occupational health check fees
  • Up to four fully funded attempts at the learning assessment (MCQ)
  • Reimbursement of Skilled Worker visa fees
  • Indemnity is covered under the Clinical Negligence Scheme for General Practice (but all GPs are advised to take out personal “Top Up” cover).

In addition to the above, the opportunities available through Templars provide additional funding for each International GP. This NHS funding can be used flexibly depending on the needs of the doctor.

Most importantly you will be supported by the team at Templars at all times through the process including help with all documentation, social induction, finding accommodation, arranging travel, and anything you need. The pastoral support continues for as long as you need it and we can introduce you to other EU GPs working in the area.

Please contact either Lewis Whiteoak or Fiona Carr for more information.
